Greg Martin’s redesign of his hometown course garnered an award from the ASGCA.

On Thursday April 11th the Phillips Park Golf Club operated by the City of Aurora, was recognized by the American Society Golf Course Architects (ASGCA) for a national design award of excellence.

The renovation work was done by Greg Martin in his hometown of Aurora.

Phillips Park was an 80 year old WPA course which had started showing it’s age, before the city of Aurora made the commitment to bring it back to life.

At 6,200 yards it doesn’t seem very long, but the course has all the challenges any golfer can ask for. There are enough trees, water, sand and elevation change on some holes to test even the low handicappers.

Northwestern Men’s Golf Coach and Director of Golf at the school Pat Goss, is a NU alum who has had his program running pretty well for many of the years he has been there.

In spite of the fact that one of the top four players in the professional world of golf, NU alum Luke Donald is been out of the school for years. Donald still uses Goss as his swing coach today.

Donald is not the only Wildcat Alum in the golf professional ranks but he is the most famous one.
