Classic clothiers Devereux close out successful rookie year

Like any startup businessman, Devereux’s Robert Brunner was confident his clothing line would be a hit with golfers seeking that classic-cool look.

Now closing out his rookie year in the industry with his latest fall line, Brunner admits the company he created with his brother Will has performed a cut above his wildest dreams.

“Has it exceeded our expectations? Yes!” Brunner said. “We had a very humbling first year. The golf industry has been very accepting of our brand and has really helped grow this brand faster than we expected.”

With good reason. Devereux’s duds blend fit, form and function in ways few competitors can claim in the industry, with an emphasis on anything other than following the herd. And if their fall lineup is any indication, the Brothers Brunner show no signs of their success unraveling.

“A great fall lineup deals with the layer options you present your collection with,” Robert Brunner explained. “We offer a great piece that goes well with our polo shirts. Our featured piece for the fall is a sophisticated cardigan and we also have a classic V-neck sweater for cooler days. They’re great layering pieces that aren’t too heavy and will keep you warm on cooler days.”

Inspiration for the fall collection comes from Miami in the 1950s and 1960s, Brunner said. Lush evergreen and cool navy depict the fun-loving beach and resort life, while the deep claret and monochromatic color scheme embark on the dark mood of Miami nights during that time period.

There are four new styles — the Charles, Jahan, Joseph and William — each featuring claret and evergreen color schemes.

The Charles ($89.95) is a timeless and colorful polo, intended for the nicer courses on your bucket list. Like all of the Devereux line, attention to detail and a bold contrast cut-and-sew chest piece make it stand out.

The Jahan ($84.95) is a beautiful-yet-quite-casual piece that looks fitting on the course or off. A well-fit polo with a conservative print, it’s offered in many color options.

With a timeless and classic look, the Joseph ($84.95) is a shirt designed for elegance. Beautiful contrast piping in subtle colorways make it perfect to pair with trousers or a sport coat.

The William ($84.95) is a modified look from its spring version. Its pocket and button-down collar give it a buttoned-up look, while added chest stripes introduce a casual aesthetic that elevates this piece to the front of your wardrobe.

New to this season, the Devereux Prescott pant offers a clean and sleek look. Its narrow fit was designed for functionality while maintaining an acceptable look, whether on the course or at the office. The Prescott is available in claret, steel and graphite.

The Haimes ($145) is a casual sweater made of an 85% Pima Cotton and 15% Baby Alpaca blend, with a v-neck and ribbed trim. The Arthur (also $145, top photo) offers the same fabric blend as the Haimes, with a contrasting trim.

If all that weren’t enough, Brunner says there’s much more in store for 2015.

“It’s going to be an exciting year for us, because we are introducing very unique collections that hopefully will inspire our customers!” he said. “We are excited to continue the growth of our outerwear collection, and would love for the Midwest to stay tuned!”
