KemperSports to Manage Chicago’s Sensational Harborside International Golf Center

One is a beloved, 36-hole Chicagoland staple, one is the Club Management Company of the Year. Together, Harborside International Golf Center and KemperSports make a dynamic golf duo.

The Northbrook-based golf management company has been tapped by the Illinois International Port District to manage key operations of Harborside International, the fantastic facility with two of the Top 50 best municipal courses in America — just 15 minutes from downtown.

“KemperSports has extensive experience in managing and promoting a number of the top public and private golf courses in the Chicagoland area, and its management team shares our vision for providing exceptional service and top course conditioning for all guests,” Michael Forde, chairman of the Illinois International Port District, said in a release.

KemperSports will handle the golf course management, marketing and agronomy services for the Dick Nugent-designed courses, which are among the best in Illinois. Nugent built the twin beauties on the site of a former landfill, reclaiming the land and creating an incredible pair of championship tracks, complete with views of the Chicago skyline. Harborside’s Port course weighs in at 7,164 yards from the tournament tees, while the Starboard course tips the scales at 7,166 yards from the tournament tees.

The facility hosted the BC Senior Open in 2002, as well as a number of amateur tournaments each season. This year, Harborside will welcome the Chicago Golfweek Amateur Tour’s Chicago Classic in August, the tour’s second major of the season.

KemperSports’ top executive said there’s plenty more in store for Harborside, as well.

“With two great golf courses located just minutes from the Chicago Loop, Harborside is a premier golf facility,” said Steve Skinner, chief executive officer of KemperSports. “We plan to introduce a variety of new programming at Harborside to cater to the residents of Chicago and surrounding areas. We look forward to elevating the service, playing conditions and guest experience at the property to make Harborside a must-play for Chicago golfers and visitors to the city.”

In addition to its award-winning courses, Harborside is also home to a 24,000 square-foot clubhouse that includes a Phil Stefani Signature Restaurant, Pier 37.
